FAQ FOR ENGINEERED DOORS
1. What is an Engineered Door ?
Ans : An Engineered door uses engineering skills to combine combinations of material to create a door having excellent finish and detailing and has the elegance of the solid wooden door with an eco friendly design concept which uses very little volume of wood.
2. What is the difference between an Engineered Door and Solid Door?
Ans : An Engineered door uses real wood of different species on the peripherals of sections pertaining to the stiles and rails and high moisture resistant MDF(Medium density fibre board) in between. Engineered door is eco friendly but a solid door is not eco friendly.
Stile is the vertical section and rail is the horizontal section in a door.
3. Will the Engineered Door warp or change in dimensions with seasonal changes in weather?
Ans : Not at all. In fact that is the beauty of the Engineered panel door.
4. What happens to the Engineered Door if KILN Dried wood is not used?
Ans : The door will warp a little and change in dimensions will be noticed during seasonal weather changes.
5. What are the advantages of using KILN dried wood for the manufacture of an Engineered door?
Ans : It ensures perfect machining of the wood and also ensures dimensional stability which is not possible in conventional hard wood
6. Then what about doors made of KILN dried solid wood?
Ans : Well the solid door made out of KILN dried wood is susceptible to a little change in dimensions with weather changes due to the high volume of wood involved
7. Then what about the wood used in the Engineered door.
Ans : Quantum of KILN dried wood used in the Engineered door is much less compared to solid wooden door and hence the incremental changes in dimensions will be negligible since it is used in conjunction with HMR grade MDF.
8. What is a Moulded Engineered door?
Ans : A moulded Engineered door uses separate wooden beadings for the in-fill panel fitment which is moulded with a special shape for achieving different aesthetics for a contemporary look.
9. What is Flush door ?
Ans : A flush door has no aesthetics and is bland in looks. Invariably uses soft wood in the core which leads to a reduced life for the door. It is not eco friendly
10. What is a Skin Door.
Ans : A skin door uses artificial beautifying skin to clad the door with panels. Though it looks better than the flush door it does not have the elegance strength and life which the Engineered door provides. A skin door too has degradable soft wood in its core and is not eco friendly.
11. Do the skin & Flush doors have the same structural strength and dimensional stability as the Engineered Door?
Ans : No they do not since the material and structure do not permit the dimensional stability nor the strength.
12. What is a panelled door?
Ans : A panelled door is made of stiles and rails with different raised or flat panels as in-fills. Frame and panel construction (also called “rail and stile”) is a woodworking technique often used in the making of doors. The basic idea is to capture a ‘floating’ panel within a sturdy frame. Usually, the panel is not glued to the frame - it is left to ‘float’ within it so that seasonal movement of the wood comprising the panel does not distort the frame.
Frame and panel construction at its most basic consists of five members: the panel and the four members which make up the frame. The vertical members of the frame are called stiles while the horizontal members are known as rails. A basic frame and panel item consists of a top rail, a bottom rail, two stiles, and a panel. In larger panels it is common to divide the panel into one or more sections. To house the extra panels, dividing pieces known as mid rails and mid stiles or muntins are added to the frame.
13. What is the price difference between the Engineered door and the Solid wooden door?
Ans : The price of an Engineered door can be around 30% lower than the solid wooden door depending on the cost of different species of wood
14. What about the elegance of Engineered Door?
Ans : The Engineered door looks as elegant or even better than the solid wooden door with better finish and detailing on account of the engineering that goes with it.
15. What kind of veneer is used in the Engineered door?
Ans : Only natural veneers sliced from the bark of a tree are used to give the door a natural wooden door look. Veneer pasting is excellent since it is performed on an Italian hot press.
16. Are there hand crafted parts in the Engineered Door?
Ans : All parts of the Engineered door are made to perfection on imported German and Italian machines with total automation.
17. Do you supply ready to fit Engineered Doors?
Ans : The door will have to be polished in polyurethane finish before fitment
18. Do you supply door Frames and Architraves? What are the versions available?
Ans :Yes we do. We have both the solid wood and Engineered versions.
19. How do you fit the Engineered door, frame and architrave?
Ans :You will need a carpenter to fit the hinges and lock on the door before he fits it on the frame. The Engineered frame needs to be fixed within the plywood lipping fixed on to the civil opening on the wall of the door using an expandable foam sealant. Contact us for details.
20. What happens when water splashes on the Engineered door?
Ans : Nothing will happen since HMR grade MDF is used all through and more over the PU finish polishing will ensure total moisture elimination.
21. What is the key benefit of choosing the Engineered door over the conventional flush, skin or hard wood doors?
Ans : Engineered door gives elegance of a solid wooden door to the interiors of the living space.. The Engineered door has better strength and life as compared to the flush or skin doors and it is Eco friendly too.
22. Is any part of the MDF in the Engineered door exposed to the atmosphere?
Ans : Not at all.
23. What is the life of an Engineered door in comparison to the flush or skin doors?
Ans : Much higher on account of natural hard wood and HMR MDF usage. Flush and skin door have soft wood in the core which reduces the life of the door.
24. What is panel raising?
Ans : Panel raising is the chamfered designed contour on the edges of the in-fill panel achieved out of a special machining process.
25. Is an Engineered door/frame and architrave fitment procedure available?
Ans : Yes. You can get in touch with us for details.
26. What is the approximate weight of a three panel door?
Ans : Approximate weight for a three panel engineer door of size 2089mm (H) X 35mm (Thick), Width of 900mm for front door would be 40Kgs and approximately 50Kgs for 45mm thick version.
27. What about security of the panel door.
Ans : The moulded panel door does not have removable beedings and hence it is extremely rugged and tamper proof.
28. What are the standard door dimensions in the residential sector?
Ans : 2089mm (H) X 30mm (Thick), Width of 900mm for front door, 825mm for the bedroom, 725mm for the kitchen and 625mm for the bathroom. Standard thickness for the flush door is 30mm and that for engineered doors and solid wooden doors would be 35/45mm thick.
